Leather Gloves - What Kind Do You Need

December 4th, 2007

We have had a mild winter this year in Tennessee. This morning was the first morning I have got in the truck and put my hands on the steering wheel and said jeez that’s cold where are my leather gloves. If this has happened to you or before this happens to you head on over to our leather gloves page and find something that will keep your hands warm this winter. For extremely cold conditions make sure to get a glove that is lined with thinsulate or polar fleece. For moderately cold temperatures an unlined glove would be enough to knock the chill off of your hands.

Ride 4 Steve Helton a huge success.

October 14th, 2007

Over 1,100 bikes showed up to pledge their support for officer Steve Helton on Saturday October 13th. The ride which started at Maryville Harley Davidson and finished at Dick Clark’s theater in Pigeon Forge was an awesome show of respect for officer Helton. The huge turnout show how Sevier County can get behind Steve and his family and let them know that their thoughts and prayers are with them as Steve is recovering. Rocky Top Leather was proud to offer their support for Steve and his family by being a sponsor of the event. We wish him a fast and speedy recovery. For more information on the success of the event and Steve’s progress check out http://www.ride4steve.com

How should I clean my boots?

August 8th, 2007

With each pair of boots you have, you should take the time to properly maintain them. The few minutes it takes will greatly extend the life of the boots.

1. CLEAN
Do not let dirt and dust accumulate on leather products. After each wearing, boots should be wiped down with a damp, not wet, cloth. Dust and dirt can break down the leather and shorten the life of your boots. Allow your boots to dry out thoroughly between wearings. This prevents the onset of bacteria from forming in the leather. Allow your boots to air dry, do not set them near heat. It will dry them out excessively.

2. CONDITION
Conditioning leather is important because conditioner helps to maintain the original look and feel of the leather. Conditioning keeps the boots from drying out. Use a conditioner specially formulated for boots. Lanolin based products work best.

3. POLISH
To keep boots looking their best, you should periodically apply a matching boot cream polish. The polish will help to cover any scuffs and can be brought to a bright luster.

4. PROTECT
Protect your boots even more with water repellant, use boot trees to help maintain your boots shape and form and use edge dressing on the outside edge to maintain welt color.
